Award Nomination for Social Support Systems

The team from Social Support Systems CIC have been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Fire and Emergency Resilience’ category of the 2017 Excellence in Fire and Emergency Awards, in Partnership with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Together, the partnership facilitated psychological recovery operations for first responders who attended the London terror attacks of 2017, and Grenfell Tower fire. By providing Strategic Critical Incident Stress Management for those who had suffered a traumatic reaction due to their experiences at the incidents, the partnership was able to alleviate a great deal of psychological trauma, distress and emotional pain.

There are a number of other organisations who have also been shortlisted for this award, each of which has clearly made a great contribution to the fire and emergency sector, so Social Support are honoured to have be chosen by the judges of FIRE magazine, who preside over the awards process.

Sean McCallum, Managing Director commented “Our team consists of mainly former or serving firefighters and veterans of the UK Armed Forces. They bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of critical incidents and emergency service culture – this is vital to facilitate peer support in its truest sense.”

Aside from providing support in the aftermath of critical incidents, Social Support Systems CIC also manages the Crisis Clinic, which is located in Nottinghamshire, and created to support those in our communities who are enduring trauma, distress or are in crisis due to poor psychological well-being.

Still love to walk around. I used to live in the big house at the top of the drive, it was Oak House then and I nursed at Ransom Hospital , Byron Ward which was on the left side of Ransom Hall car park. Oak House used to be Sisters accommodation. I think the main chef lived upstairs when I lived there and just me downstairs mostly. I loved it but had to keep my kitchen door closed because of the squirrels. Loved looking down the drive out of my bedroom and lounge windows, beautiful in Autumn and when it snowed, I worked at Ransom Hospital until it closed in 1987. Wonder why Oak House was later named Ash House? Lovely dining at Forever Green in the grounds whilst I reminisce.

Brilliant place, they have all sorts of businesses there. A cafe, hypnotherapy, hypnopuncture as well many others. Worth a drive up just to see what's there. Furthermore, it's in lovely surroundings.
