L’Eroica, the famous historic Tuscan bike tour known as ‘the most handsome bike race in the World’ has just been held in the UK for the very first time.
It featured a man who could be known as “the most handsome cyclist from Ransomwood Estates”, our very own Paul Betts.
Paul joined 2,000 other riders to complete the three day festival bike ride when it was held in the Peak District on 20th -22nd June and chose to ride 55 miles from the three routes available.
L’Eroica Britannia happens three weeks before the Grand Départ of The Tour de France 2014 comes to Yorkshire and the Peak District. Known as The Great British Adventure, the ride aspect of L’Eroica Britannia embraces the romantic idea of heroic cycling as it once was, adventuring along trails and tracks similar to the historic Tuscan ‘Strade Bianchi’.
Adventurers may choose either a 30 mile, 55 mile or 100 mile route to be ridden on the 22 June on bikes which comply to L’Eroica rules. Pre 1987 bikes and certain stipulations for apparel must be observed creating a fascinating and vibrant spectacle touring through the Peak District.
Paul commented “This was a superb weekend, undoubtedly the best cycling event I have ever attended. Something for everyone, bikes, good food, fashion, music you name it. The ride was just the right mix with brilliant weather, some tough climbs and superb food stops at Hartington and Chatsworth where we sat at the side of the river eating pate and potted meat sandwiches washed down with iced Pimms! Can’t wait till next year.”
Well done Paul!
