Love Your Office

Rarely a Monday morning goes by where most of us would love nothing more than to switch off the alarm and go back to sleep. But the reality is, we’ve got to haul ourselves out of our pit, run a comb through our hair, and brave a familiar commute into the office.

The workplace is not always where we most want to be. But the fact is: if it wasn’t there, we’d miss it. Here are five reasons why you should love your desk:

Beat Procrastination

When working from home, there is nothing more appealing than the lure of mid-morning television, and often nothing with more tremendous importance than a spot of dusting.

Being in the office eliminates most of the things that distract us from work, leaving less scope for procrastination and a much better environment for efficiency.

The Learning Experience

The office gives us the opportunity to learn from people with more experience.

Sometimes, this can be annoying. But more often than not, having a manager or more experienced colleague who asks pointed questions about our work, provides feedback, and can identify our strengths and weaknesses, is really valuable to professional development.

Routine

Routine is good for the soul – it simplifies life and provides us with stability.

Often freelance workers will find themselves feeling isolated from their friends if they let their work routine slip – suddenly, they’re finding themselves catching up on evenings and weekends because when everyone else was in the office, they were busying themselves with other tasks.

Completing everyday tasks and ticking them off on a ‘to do’ list can prove satisfying. And the working weeks, months and years seem much less bewildering when broken down into a manageable working structure.

Credibility

People who work from home can often feel that others perceive their work as less credible than those that work from an office. Although this is just a common misconception, at least working in an office doesn’t have this negative impact on your self-esteem!

Social Boost

Unfortunately it stands to reason that in the office you may have to deal with ‘morning people’ first thing on a Monday, or face the daily peril of being stuck in the lunch-queue with someone who’s not top of your friend list. But aside from these obvious downfalls, office life can give our social lives a real boost.

Freelancers often feel isolated. Don’t underestimate the value of taking two minutes every now and then to ask a co-worker’s advice or input on a project, or just enquire as to how their weekend went – it’s little things like this that keep you sane.

So, although working from the sofa in your pyjamas feels so right as you head off on the early morning commute, remind yourself of these five reasons why the office is the place to be.

Of course, here at Ransom Wood there’s an extra reason to love your office and that is the great surroundings we are in. Our unique woodland location provides a calm oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city centre life.  If you’re not based here already then give us a call to see how we can help you make the move.

Still love to walk around. I used to live in the big house at the top of the drive, it was Oak House then and I nursed at Ransom Hospital , Byron Ward which was on the left side of Ransom Hall car park. Oak House used to be Sisters accommodation. I think the main chef lived upstairs when I lived there and just me downstairs mostly. I loved it but had to keep my kitchen door closed because of the squirrels. Loved looking down the drive out of my bedroom and lounge windows, beautiful in Autumn and when it snowed, I worked at Ransom Hospital until it closed in 1987. Wonder why Oak House was later named Ash House? Lovely dining at Forever Green in the grounds whilst I reminisce.

Brilliant place, they have all sorts of businesses there. A cafe, hypnotherapy, hypnopuncture as well many others. Worth a drive up just to see what's there. Furthermore, it's in lovely surroundings.
