Need Inspiration? Try These Tips.

Looking for new and better ways to get more done in the office? We take a look at some less obvious options you might not have tried. Best of all, there’s not a caffeine-laden drink in sight!

1. Peppermint

Yes, research has shown that the scent of peppermint is a proven productivity booster.

In one study, office workers who sniffed peppermint oils typed faster after smelling it.

Not keen on peppermint? Other natural scents such as lemon and basil can boost concentration in a similar way.

2. Bring a pet to work

Another proven method for boosting productivity – having pets in the office lowers stress levels and raises motivation. Dogs are particularly beneficial, as they also encourage workers to get away from their desks and go for a walk.

3. Watch cat clips

If you can’t have a real live animal in the office, then virtual furry friends are the next best thing – the cuter and fluffier the better. A study conducted in Japan found that looking at images of cute kittens and puppies improves our ability to concentrate, leading to more accurate and focused work. Our recommendation: ten minutes of kitten videos daily.

4. Don’t tidy your desk

No, really – according to Tom Gimbel of recruitment agency LaSalle Network, having a messy desk enhances productivity because being surrounded by chaos forces your mind to streamline and focus only on the task at hand. Lean office devotees take note.

5. Get gossiping

Apparently, it helps to relieve stress and strengthen bonds with colleagues (except perhaps the ones you’re talking about), giving you an improved sense of wellbeing – and motivation.

6. Stand up

Not all day – but working standing up for short periods will help you beat that afternoon lull when all you really want to do is take a nap. Maybe you could talk your boss into getting you a desk with in-built treadmill for an extra energy boost.

7. Chew gum

Proof that teachers aren’t always right – chewing gum aids focus and concentration, so try it when you feel your energy lagging during the post-lunch slump. Preferably peppermint flavour. While watching kitten clips.

Here at Ransom Wood we believe our great environment helps to boost productivity as we offer a “room with a view”.  On gazing out of your office window for inspirational thinking your eyes meet with 70 acres of natural woodland, wild flowers and wildlife.  Speak to us now on 01623 675304 to secure an office within this great setting.

Still love to walk around. I used to live in the big house at the top of the drive, it was Oak House then and I nursed at Ransom Hospital , Byron Ward which was on the left side of Ransom Hall car park. Oak House used to be Sisters accommodation. I think the main chef lived upstairs when I lived there and just me downstairs mostly. I loved it but had to keep my kitchen door closed because of the squirrels. Loved looking down the drive out of my bedroom and lounge windows, beautiful in Autumn and when it snowed, I worked at Ransom Hospital until it closed in 1987. Wonder why Oak House was later named Ash House? Lovely dining at Forever Green in the grounds whilst I reminisce.
