The next Sweat Lodge event will be held here at Ransom Wood on Friday 27th March from 6.00 p.m. until 11.00 p.m.
So what is a sweat lodge?
Well, it is in fact a purification ceremony, a place to cleanse and connect with nature, the elements and the spirit. The sweat lodge is a covered dome created out of bent willow saplings. During the sweat lodge hot volcanic stones are placed in a central pit in the dome and dowsed with water and herbs, creating a therapeutic steam. The stones represent our ancestors and the lodge itself represents the womb of mother earth. Physically the heat and steam are very cleansing. The whole ceremony is incredibly nurturing and helps us to reconnect – cultivating our relationship to the elements, nature and each other.
We recommend that you have a restful evening prior to the lodge and that you keep the evening after the lodge completely free of engagements. We also ask that all mobile phones be switched off.
