Nordic Walking at Ransom Wood

Nordic Walking is the latest revolutionary full body workout. You can work the upper body whilst you’re walking by using specially designed Nordic Walking Poles. Regular classes will be launched from Forever Green, Ransom Wood after Easter. Make the most of the Green Gym that is literally on your doorstep.

Originating in the 1930s when cross country skiers devised a way of training in the summer months using just poles, it wasn’t until the 1980s that what is now known as Nordic Walking really began.

The benefits include:
• Burns 400 calories per hour
• Exercises 90% of your skeletal muscle
• Releases shoulder / neck tension
• Reduces the impact on joints
• Requires less effort than normal walking
• It’s fun!

Pip Bateman is an experienced Instructor and has been Nordic Walking for 8 years.  She will be launching regular weekly classes from Thursday 8th April 2015. Cost: £6 person / Poles are included.   Induction Class is FREE to all Ransom Wood employees.

Explore the beautiful woodland that is on your doorstep and keep fit in this most sociable way.

“I don’t like going to the gym so Nordic Walking has become part of my weekly fitness routine “
“Like a massage for my neck and shoulders and I sleep so much better”
“It is amazing to realize that something easier to do than walking actually burns more calories!”

Students are asked to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire prior to taking part. The Induction class will teach you the first steps to Nordic Walking as you become ‘Pole Confident’. All equipment is provided for Nordic Walking. You just need to come dressed for a walk in the park.

Whether you are interested in the health benefits or to improve fitness – Nordic walking is the best use of the ‘Green Gym’ around! Nordic walking can make a real difference to your health, fitness and sense of well-being.   Come along and try it – if you can walk, you can Nordic Walk! Pre-booking is essential, so contact Pip to find out further information, class times and to book your place.

Still love to walk around. I used to live in the big house at the top of the drive, it was Oak House then and I nursed at Ransom Hospital , Byron Ward which was on the left side of Ransom Hall car park. Oak House used to be Sisters accommodation. I think the main chef lived upstairs when I lived there and just me downstairs mostly. I loved it but had to keep my kitchen door closed because of the squirrels. Loved looking down the drive out of my bedroom and lounge windows, beautiful in Autumn and when it snowed, I worked at Ransom Hospital until it closed in 1987. Wonder why Oak House was later named Ash House? Lovely dining at Forever Green in the grounds whilst I reminisce.
