In October this year our application to build a solar farm here at Ransom Wood was agreed by the council planning department.
An area of approximately 1.22 hectares has been earmarked for the installation of over 2,000 solar panels and work will commence early in 2015. The site will be surrounded by a 2.5 metre high security fence.
The solar panels will feed the generated electricity into an existing substation and this will then be used to help power the Ransom Wood Business Park.
The planning committee members voted unanimously in favour of the plans at a recent meeting. Coun. Hopewell said “I’m in favour of any scheme like this. We’re looking at ways of getting more green energy. If its not going to have a visual effect, I wholeheartedly back this”.
Charles Cannon, Director of Ransomwood Estates, thanked the council for its vote of confidence adding; “We’ve spent 3 years looking at all possible renewable technologies and interviewed 33 companies before making our decision. We will now be producing 50% of the electricity used on the park from solar”.
